Betty Knutson, a member of Sigdslag, has been teaching a Basic Hardanger class at 7-Lag Stevne, on and off since 2005. Both her grandmothers and mother taught her the love of stitching. Her love covers many crafts, including designing and sewing clothes, crewelwork, knitting, quilting and counted cross stitch. She has a degree in Textiles and Clothing from Colorado State University.  A number of her Hardanger pieces have won awards at County and State Fairs and Sons of Norway (both District and International Competition). One of her Hardanger designs was published by Nordic Needle. Needlework is an important part of our heritage, no matter what your ethnic background is. On her last five trips to Norway, Betty was told that Hardanger is a dying art -- the younger generation is not doing it. Betty feels that if she shares her knowledge with others, the beautiful work of Hardanger will be preserved.
